Various Dinners!

Most nights I cook us two similar, but different dinners. Here are a few recent efforts -

Vegie Sausage Kebabs with salad & vegie mash and Normal sausages with vegie mash & peas

Pumpkin Soup with cheesy garlic toast

Vegie schnitzel with corn & salad, pork schnitzel with corn and home made oven baked chips

vegie bolognaise & meaty bolognaise

Food Court Lunch

Weekends sometimes (or quite often even) mean lunch at the foodcourt at Grand Plaza.

This has become my regular choice - 2 x vegetarian & 1 x avocado sushi rolls with a can of V. I love the tofu in the vegie rolls. Its lovely and sweet. I just have to remove the cucumber before I eat them, because cucumber is evil :-)

This is Janet's lunch of choice. A small chicken royale value meal from Hungry Jacks.

Pumpkin Pasta

What to do with left over pumpkin soup? Turn it into pasta sauce of course! We had only a small amount of homemade soup in a container in the freezer, so I heated it up and let it thicken a bit, and mixed it through some pasta. I also stired through some roasted pumpkin (I chopped up the pumpkin, tossed it in fresh herbs, garlic and olive oil and roasted it in the oven until it was golden). The result? a delicious dinner!

Out to Dinner - June- Six Degrees Indooroopilly

The 4th of June is our wedding anniversary. So we went out for dinner the Saturday after that. We went to Six Degrees in Station Road, Indooroopilly. Its up the road from the Eldorado Cinemas. (and down the road from the Indooroopilly Mega Plex) We were sat out on th little balcony, which was slightly chilly, and a little dark to get good photos - so sorry about that!

We started with some Garlic Bread with Parmesan Cheese. Nice and buttery.
I had the Fetuccine Florentine. It was very good! Pasta, spinach, basil, pine nuts and parmesan.

Janet had the snapper & chips. Great chips (I had to try one) and the fish got a big thumbs up too. The salad did not. It was too cucumbery for my liking, and too salady for Janet :-)
After dinner we went to the Eldorado and watched the movie "I love you, man". Good Movie. Extremely uncomfortable movie seats! I recommend taking a cushion to the Eldorado in future.

Pizza! Lawrences Pizza, Crestmead

Our ongoing quest for the perfect pizza continues....

We ventured to Lawrence's Pizza at Crestmead.

Janet had the BBQ Meat Lovers (singel size $7)

I had the vegetarian, minus mushrooms, plus pineapple (Single size, $7)

These were very good pizzas! Great crusts, great toppings, great price! I would have liked the sauce on mine to be a bit better, but I am being picky. This was a busy little place, and we shall be back!

Cheap Cake!

For my Mum's birthday, I looked in an old handwritten cookbook that I got from my Gran. It was kind of a late-minute decision to make a cake, so our ingredients were a little limited, so this cake, titled "cheap cake" seemed to be just the right thing!

Cheap Cake

1 1/2 cups flour

1 cup sugar

1 tablespoon butter

1/2 cup milk

1 teaspoon cocoa

1 tablespoon cinnamon

1/2 cup boiling water

1 egg

1 teaspoon baking powder

Cream butter & sugar (this was difficult, so I just beat it together for quite a long time). Add egg, well beaten, then dry ingredients, then milk and lastly boiling water. Bake 1/2 hour. (I baked it at 180 degrees, since it didn't specify)

I iced the cake with a butter cream icing, lightly tinted with cocoa, with a drizzle of maple syrup also added.

Out to Dinner - May (#5) Simple Pleasures, Kenmore

We joined my Mum & Dad for dinner at Simple Pleasures, Kenmore. (for my Mum's birthday)

The menu scared us a bit. But eventually Janet & I both found something to order!
Mum & Dad both had the same thing - Rump of Wagyu Beef w fricasee of asparagus, potato & shallot, green peppercorn butter, cognac jus.

We shared 2 bowls of fries between the 4 of us. The fries were good.

Janet ordered from the entree section - wagyu bolognese and potato croquettes w artichoke puree, lemon & basil salad.

This is the rocket salad my parents shared. It was quite delicious.

I also ordered from the entree section - salad of vine tomatoes, buffalo bocconcini, herbs, south burnett evoo, 25 year old balsamic.
I enjoyed this, but really, how hard is it to put a sliced tomato on a plate and throw arond a bit of cheese?

For a rather posh expensive place, the service was rather lacking. We had to ask to place our drinks order, waited a long while to place our meal order, the wine was dripped on the table when it was poured, and our water glasses were never refilled until after we had finished and received the bill, when they were refilled twice in about 5 minutes. Rather odd that!

Out to Dinner - May (#4) White Bull Tavern, Roma

For our homewards stop-over in Roma, we headed to the White Bull Tavern for dinner

We shared this delicious garlic bread - it was melted garlicy butter on toasted turkish bread!

Janet had Crumbed Lamb Cutlets with Beer-Battered Chips.

I had pumpkin and ricotta ravioli, which tasted like the sauce came from a jar. But I liked it!

Lunch! - Caltex Servo, Morven

Lunch at the Caltex Servo in Morven was fantastic!

Yes, I had a salad sandwich. This one came with everything under the sun! Lettuce, tomato, capsicum, carrot, onion, beetroot, pineapple and cheese! Magnificent!!

Janet had a bacon & egg roll. FIlled with heaps of bacon!!

So if you are ever in Morven, stop at the Caltex for a great meal!!

The Black Stump, Blackall - found it!

On our way to Longreach, we tried to find the Black Stump in Blackall, and failed. On our way home, we made it our mission to find it. And we did.

EXCITING HEY!!

Heading Home - Sunrise @ the Machinery Mile, Ilfracombe

We stopped on our way home at Ilfracombe, to wander along the Machinery Mile, and to take in the sunrise.....

Out to Dinner May (#3) Outback Restaurant, Longreach

We decided to give the Outback Restaurant another go. This time, it was open, so we had a more successful dining attempt :-)

We both ordered from the specials Blackboard. The same dish actually....

I had the Spagetti & Meatballs, without the meatballs.

Janet had the Spagetti & Meatballs.

Both came with a nice piece of garlic bread, with Parmesan cheese on top. Quite delicious!!

Afternoon Tea - The Station Store, Longreach

Because we hadn't eaten enough yet, we decided to have afternoon tea from The Station Store. This is where you can go on a Cobb & Co. Coach ride. We decided to just have the Tea & Scones :-)

I had a chocolate milkshake, since I am a non-tea drinker.

THe Cobb & Co Coach arrived while we were eating!

We shared a plate of Scones. Very fluffy scones with delicious jam & cream

Janet had a giant pot of tea.

Everything was garnished with gum leaves!

Railway Museum - Longreach

Following the "Things to Do in Longreach" Pamphlet, we took a trip to the Railway Museum (which is at the station). Luckily it was a short trip, since it was a very small museum.....the entire thing is pictured below -

After all that museum-ing, a rest was in order! hahahahaha

Time for Lunch! - The Merino Bakery, Longreach

We had lunch at the Merino Bakery, Longreach. Its a great set up, with your normal bakery items, as well as a great sandwich/roll bar.

I had, yet another salad sandwich. This time, with lettuce, onion, beetroot, carrot, tomato, on fresh bakery bread. Delicious!!

Janet had a sausage roll....

And what has now come to been known as the Best Cream & Jam Donut ever.

Stockman's Hall of Fame, Longreach

No trip to Longreach is complete without a visit to the Stockman's Hall of Fame.

Something new (to me) was the daily Stockman SHow. ($5 extra) It was an entertaining show - we got to see some sheep rounded up by various dogs, and heard lots of stories about the life of a stockman

Breakfast - Dot's Central Cafe, Longreach

WHile we were away, most of our breakfasts consisted of fun size boxes of cereal (Janet) or Up & GO's or Museli bars (me) that we brought from home.

We bought breakfast only once. From Dot's Central Cafe in Longreach.

I had a toasted tomato sandwich. Yum!!

Janet had bacon & eggs, which also came with 2 slices of toast. One of which I ate with the grilled tomato that also accompanied the meal. SOmething about being on holiday makes me hungry!

Billabong Boat Cruise - Longreach

We were picked up from outside our motel by the Billabong Boat Cruise bus and taken down to the Thompson River. And onto the boat we went....

We cruised along the river waiting for the sun to set, eating some cheee and crackers. and drinking nothing. (its BYO drinks - ALL drinks)

So the sun set, and was lovely reflected in the water....

Then it was back on shore for some music, bush poetry, and of course some dinner. We had Stew & bread, followed by apple strudel and cream, followed by damper with syrup, and of course, billy tea. (no food photos, as it was very dark!)

It was a great night! Very enjoyable!!

Logan to Longreach - Lunch!

During our visit to the QANTAS Founders Museum, we had to eat. (what? us? eat?) So we decided to try out McGinness's - the cafeteria in the museum.

I had (shock, horror!) a Salad Sandwich. It contained fancy lettuce, tomato, capsicum, carrot & cheese. I thought it was also meant to have avocado and beetroot. Delicious all the same. But probably double the price of the same thing in a takeaway. WHo cares - we were on holidays and ate with a view of the planes!

Janet tried the crispy chicken burger. With Chips. It was good after the removal of the fancy lettuce. (iceberg lettuce = ok, other lettuce = bad)

QANTAS Founders Museum, Longreach

The main reason for our road trip to Longreach was this. A visit to the QANTAS FOunders Museum where we could walk on the wing of a 747.

THe 747 is an imposing sight as you drive into Longreach. That distinctive red tail really stands out.

We were booked to do the whole package of tours at the museum, so got there at 9am to begin our plane-filled day.

We did a tour of the 747, a tour of the 707, watched a film, sat in the cockpit of the 747, climbed down into the computer bank under the floor of the 747, and finally did our wing walk.

You may think that if you have been on a plane, there is no reason to do a tour of one, but it really did show you a lot of things you wouldn't see, as well as letting you get very close to the plane.

One suggestion - they should take a photo of the people on the wing walk. They could then sell it to you and make more money! We were suprised that we had to take our own photo while we were up there. A photo from a platform near the plane would work better!

Out to Dinner May (#2) - Longreach RSL

We tried to go to the Outback Restaurant at the Longreach Motor Inn, but being the Labor Day holiday, it was shut. So we walked back to the Longreach RSL. And had the hugest meals ever.

Janet had Whiting with Vegetables & Chips ($22)

I had a Tortilla Vegie Stack with Salad (and chips). Biggest salad ever.It included potato salad and rice salad. And lots of chips.

Neither of us could finish the whole plate. Delicious Dinner!

Longreach Sunset

On our first day in Longreach, I drove us across the river to a truck parking area, where we watched the sunset. There are a million more photos on my Flickr account http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeybird88/sets/72157617843701561/

The Tree of Knowledge Memorial - Barcaldine

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,25419926-5006786,00.html

Tree of Knowledge memorial opened
May 02, 2009
Article from:
Australian Associated Press
IT'S an emblem of Australia's labour movement and a holy grail to the Labor Party.
It's also been poisoned and died.
A tree in outback Queensland, seen as the birthplace of workers' solidarity since striking shearers were said to have gathered there in 1891, has been given a new lease on life after it was poisoned three years ago.
The dead tree is part of a controversial $6 million memorial officially opened today in front of solemn dignitaries and hundreds of locals.
But the question on everyone's lips was, whodunnit?
The poisoning of the tree remains a mystery. No charges have been laid.
Popular suspects include disgruntled political opponents of the Labor Party, drunken pranksters or incompetent gardeners.
Whoever it was, there was every chance the culprit was blending in with the crowd at the opening gala.
Queensland Liberal National Party MP Vaughan Johnston, despite being a Labor opponent, attacked the anonymous poisoner when he took to the podium.
I hope you're proud of what you've done, because you haven't killed us off,'' an impassioned Mr Johnston said.
"You may have poisoned the Tree of Knowledge, you may have killed the Tree of Knowledge, but you didn't kill the spirit of western Queensland.''
Mr Johnston vehemently denied that any conservative political force could have been behind the tree's death.
Queensland Premier Anna Bligh was more restrained, saying the controversy added to the allure of the tree memorial.
"Like all legends, it has mystery attached to it. I don't know if we'll ever know who poisoned the tree,'' Ms Bligh said at the launch.
Elderly Barcaldine resident "Wacka'', who was observing the launch from outside the Railway Hotel, said local gossip had not solved the riddle.
"It's a mystery, they'll never find out who did it,'' he said.
It's not just the premature death of the tree that has locals talking - the new memorial has been criticised for being too large, too ugly and too expensive for the sleepy outback town.
The dead tree, chemically preserved, sits at the centre of a massive square frame.
Logs of wood dangle from the ceiling, creating the impression of walking underneath a live tree, according to the architects.
Liberal Senator Julian McGauran described the memorial as "ugly'', and said taxpayers' money should not have been wasted on a shrine to the Labor Party.
But federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett said it was entirely appropriate to build a memorial at the birthplace of so many political traditions.
"Some people may not like it straight away, I invite them to come up and spend a bit of time here,'' he said after the launch.
The tree memorial has been listed on the national heritage register.

My Mum asked for photos of the new Tree of Knowledge Memorial in Barcaldine. So on our way to Longreach, we stopped and took a few snaps. Its quite a difficult thing to photograph. I thonk you really have to go and see it for yourself to get the full effect. (BArcaldine is about 106 k's outside of Longreach, so roughly 1100k's from Brisbane).

Logan to Longreach - Lunch!

The first of several Salad Sandwiches I consumed on our travels. This one was from the BP Servo in Blackall. Nice full sandwich - which included cheese, beetroot, tomato, carrot, cucumber (which I took off) and lettuce. YUM!

Janet had a bacon & egg burger, which also was very well filled with salad, which she removed. (I wasn't quick enough to get a photo)

Out to Dinner May (#1) - The Golden Dragon, Roma

We were in need of dinner and Chinese sounded like a good idea. So it was off to The Golden Dragon in Roma. (the name did draw us in, since its the same name as a Chinese restaurant we go to in Caloundra)

We began with some vegie Spring Rolls. They looked good. Unfortunately they were cold in the middle. So we sent them back and they made us some hot ones.

Janet had Sweet & Sour King Prawns.

And I had tofu & vegie hot pot. Which was tasty, but nothing spectacular.

Possibly the sign should say "Finest Chinese Cuisine in Roma"

On our return trip, we will be looking for somewhere else to try.

Sunday Afternoon in Roma

We arrived in Roma on Sunday afternoon. First stop was to find somewhere for lunch. We ended up at "The Blue Shed" for some food. Because it was open. Unlike the rest of Roma!

After checking in to the Motel, we headed off for an obligatory visit to "The Big Rig". We only went into the shop, not into the actual attraction, because we couldn't see how the entry fee would be worth it.

Outside the Big Rig is the Slab Hut Museum. Which is free :-) And basically an old house with old things inside.

Next on our agenda was a walk along the Agunadoo Pathway. Along the way, we were amazed to see the number of sprinklers on this field. Apparently no water restrictions in Roma.

On our walk, we managed to find Romas largest Bottle Tree

Logan to Longreach - pit stop - McDonalds Dalby

The tv adds made us do it. You kow the one where the little girl unscrolls her caramel scroll? We made a pitstop at the McCafe in Dalby to try the "freshly baked" delicacies for ourselves.

A chocolate Croissant. mmmmmmmm. Massive thumbs up for this one from Janet.

And a mini caramel scroll. They only had mini ones. Which made it less satisfying to unscroll. But it tasted delicious all the same!

Accompanied by a mug of tea and a coke zero. And then back on the road!

Logan to Longreach - Road Trip May 2009

We left on Sunday and drove the first leg of 485 Km's to Roma where we stayed at the Starlight Motor Inn. This was a nice clean and neat motel. Thumbs up!

We entertained ourselves in Roma for the afternoon (Roma post to follow). The next day it was back on the road and off to Longreach

We paused in Tambo to fill up with petrol at the slowest petrol pump in the universe, and to have a brief look at the Tambo Teddy shop. Which they really need to do a bit of an upgrade on.

A long drive later and we were in Longreach.

Whilst in Longreach, we stayed at the Longreach Motel, in Eagle St. Not as neat and clean as Roma, but not too bad.

After a few days in Longreach (posts to follow), we reversed the process and travelled home! Stopping once more in Roma at the Starlight Motor Inn.

In total, we travelled 2417km's, bought 148.12L of petrol, saw some great sunsets, walked on the wing of a 747, ate way too much food, and had a lovely time!

the TV is freed from its box!!!

The tv cabinet arrived Friday afternoon, so we were finally able to remove the tv from its box and set it up!

Jaspa was a little impatient...

Friday night we all sat on the couch and enjoyed the new tv.....

isn't it lovely??? (its not blurry like that :-) )

On Saturday, we were able to move all the furniture around (the old massive tv corner unit is now in my room). Its like a new house! So much roomier!!!

And our new dvd shelf is just perfect!!! (although scarily, it is quite full already...)

Weekend Lunch @ the Coffee Club!

We had lunch at the Coffee Club at Grand Plaza.... we are slightly predictable with our selections. I belive we had the exact same lunch last time we ate here. And the exact same thing for breakfast the time before. When you are onto a good thing, stick to it!

(photos are from my phone)

Janet had Bacon, egg, tomato & toast without the tomato. And they actually remembered to leave off the tomato this time. You get to choose from poached or scrambled eggs. So poached it was.

My pick was the salad sandwich, although it has a much fancier name, like gourmet garden or something which failed to stick in my mind :-) Its a good sandwich. Toasted turkish bread with avocado, tomato, lettuce, carrot and swiss cheese. Oh, and cucumber, which I removed. I love this sandwich :-)

Out to dinner April - Mae Ploy Thai Restaurant Browns Plains

We tried to go to the "China Rose" but they had no spare tables and we had no booking, so we went instead to the Mae Ploy Thai Restaurant (shop 27 Village Fair Regants Park cnr Vansittart & Estramina Rd)

This is a very small restaurant which had only one other couple seated inside when we arrived. They fit us in no worries!

There is only room for 18 people inside. Its small and very green. The other couple left almost as soon as we were seated and we thought we would have the whole place to ourselves (although a family came in a bit later.)

The service in this place was great. When we were seated, the waitress lit the candle on our table and brought us a bottle of cold water, and even filled our glasses for us. She came back throughout the night and refilled our glasses many times.

We started with (as seems to be traditional for us) a serving of Vegetarian Spring Rolls ($5.90). (these are also available in a chicken variety). They were extremely hot and deliciously crunchy. Filled with mainly vermicelli noodles, they were very tasty!

At first we didn't order drinks, but the family at the other table ordered some Cokes and when we saw the big icy glasses they got, we caved and ordered some for ourselves too....

Janets meal was "Sweet Prawn Lovers" ($17.50) - crispy king prawns in sweet chilli sauce. They looked good, and were declared a winner. Large juicy prawns encased in a light crispy batter with sweet chilli sauce.

I went for the Tofu with Cashews ($12.50) This was a great mix of stir fried vegies and tofu in a yummy sauce sprinkled with crunchy cashews. Big thumbs up from me!

We also has a small serve of steamed rice, which was served in this shiny container...

We had a great meal and were well and truely stuffed! They also do takeaway, with the prices about $1 cheaper. I think dine in is the go, since you get the food much fresher! I hope more people discover this restaurant, because we wouldn't want it to disappear before our next visit!

Biscuits!!

Ever since we had Biscuits from KFC in the USA, we have been on a quest to make biscuits. So I tried this recipe for Feather light Drop biscuits from the "Everybody likes Sandwiches" Blog.

http://everybodylikessandwiches.blogspot.com/

They are gooooood!!

Stimulating the Economy & Ikea lunch!!

On the Easter long weekend we did a little bit of shopping..... On Sunday we saw an add on tv for Bali at Home - they had a big shelf for dvd's. A proper wooden shelf. With no plastic rack bits. Just what we have been looking for. So after calling them to see if they were open we went off to Underwood to have a look. And as is traditional, we bought it. YAY. To be delivered next Saturday. Bonus points to them for the bag of lollies they stapled to our reciept!!

Next stop was WOW, but it was shut. So off to Ikea. But it was shut also. So we went home!

Easter Monday however shops were OPEN and we went back to WOW and were deafened by their sound system display room. Then off to IKEA, and the Logan Mega centre. Along with everyone else onthe planet it seemed! There was even a queue of cars to get into the carpark. We headed to the far end and got a park easily. None of this stuffing around for a park close to the door for us!

We checked out the Mega Centre first, since we hadn't been there before. We were looking for a new cabinet to house our yet to be bought tv. THis is a good shopping centre for furniture. Heaps of different shops to look through, anbd they are all close together so you can go back and forth if you need to. There are also some electonic kind of shops for tvs and the like :-)

So we found a few cabinets we liked, then headed to IKEA to see if there was anything there. But first stop was for lunch in the Ikea cafeteria...

Meatballs with Mashed Potato for Janet ($7.50)

A garden salad for me ($1.50)

and also some organic pasta and vegie sauce for me ($3.95)

BARGAIN lunch :-) and yummy as well! We also had a breadroll and some butter which they neglected to charge us for, as well as a couple of beverages ($1.95 ea)

We had a wander around Ikea, but didn't find a tv cabinet that we liked as much as the ones out in the other centre, so we headed back there, buying a lazy susan for our dining table ($16) on the way out.....

We found a cabinet we liked and tried to buy it, but they had none in stock and wouldn't be able to deliver for 2 weeks. We are not that patient, so went to another shop and got a similar one that they could have delivered the next day. Too bad we had to work! SO we organised delivery for Friday afternoon. Yay!!

hmmmm did I mention that between lunch and cabinet buying, we also managed to purchase a lovely 32 inch full hd lcd tv. Which we were able to pick up immediately from the back dock in the rain. SO the lovely tv has to stay in its box until the furniture arrives.....

Janet & Ali's Big Adventure April 2008 - the end!!

We had a long trip home. We flew from Detroit to Toronto, Toronto to Vancouver, where we stayed overnight and flew out to LA the next afternoon, to Auckland, then to Brisbane.

On the way, we left our luggage in Toronto and had a last minute wait for it before we left Vancouver.

Whilst in Vancouver we savoured our last taste of Tim Hortons, and our last slices of Vancouver Pizza.

Janet & Ali's Big Adventure April 2008 Day 21 - a drive in the country

Yes, thats me driving.....

We went for an interesting day in the country with Ronda and her Grandma. We stopped by Grandma's house and saw some turkey buzzards on the barn roof. Then we visited Ronda's cousin's cows. There was an unidentified tail on the ground when we got out of the car. oh dear. Anyway, we got to see the baby calves and one of them sucked on our fingers!! Very slimy, very cool though!!

We went to Dairy Queen for lunch, and then went to Ronda's sisters place and fed the baby goats - so cute!!!!!

Janet & Ali's Big Adventure April 2008 Day 20 - bike ride & pie day!!

We went to Kensington Park for a bike ride with a big bike riding group. It was an 8 mile path around a lake - not too hilly and heaps of fun!!!

Unfortunately Janet got dizzy, so we had to stop for a while. But she was ok, so we could finish the route. Then we ate left over subway in a leaf filled park. Once we had gotten all the bikes back into the car (much better than on the way there - we all had a seat in the car this time even!) We headed back.

Then it was time for pie. We went to Bakers Square to try some pie. Janet chose Oreo, I got Cherry. Ronda's Grandma got Strawberry Rhubarb, Ronda's Aunt got Bread pudding, and Ronda got tasting slices of a million different pies for us to try. We were well and truely pied out! YUMMMMM!!!!

Janet & Ali's Big Adventure April 2008 Day 19 - Saturday

We were kept busy putting together a fire pit and a swinging chair. The fire was easy, the chair a bit more challenging. But we got it together eventually. And it actually stayed together when people sat on it.

We went to Subway and got about a million subs which I cut up and labelled when we got back. A bunch of Rondas friends came round and it was really great! We had a fantastic time!

Janet & Ali's Big Adventure April 2008 Day 18 - to Ronda's House

Off we went to Ronda's House. We stopped at Burger King for lunch, and checked out a supermarket next door. Then it was over the bridge and across the border back into the USA.

And we had Mexican for dinner....

Janet & Ali;s Big Adventure April 2008 Day 17 - Niagara Falls

We set off in the afternoon for Niagara Falls (some people wanted to have a nap in the morning).

The falls are amazing. So much water!

We did the walk behind the falls where you go down below the falls and also behind them in a tunnel for a different perspective. Then we walked along the top and took lots of pictures. We were waiting for it to get dark when we had a slight drama when Janet thought she had lost her wallet. Turns out it was in the car.

Anyway, we waited in the warm car for darkness to fall so we could see ths falls all lit up. Very cool!! Many more photos later we headed back to Toronto and into bed.

Sunday, April 12, 2009

Happy Easter!!

Janet & Ali's Big Adventure April 2008 Day 16 - toronto zoo!!

We travelled with the aid of computer navigation in Ronda's Jeep to the Toronto Zoo. It is a really big zoo. Even though some of the animals weren't out because its too cold for them still (I never even considered this). We still got to see heaps of really cool and different animals. I only got to see the Giraffe from a long distance because it was behind a fence. The Gorillas and the Orangutangs were probably my favourite, plus we got to see a beaver.

After the zoo it was back to the hotel for a rest before Stacey & Angele picked us up for dinner. We got to meet the adorable Miss Riley. We ate at Zeldas on Church St (vegie burger yum) It was great to catch up with Stacey & Angele again. We then went to find Babylon for Janet - we had walked past it yesterday - Angele was able to find it for Janet. Also Woodys.

After we got back, Ronda & I wen t to find a pharmacy to get some drugs for Janet who thinks she is getting sick. Hope its not too bad - it sucks to get sick on holiday.

Janet & Ali's Big Adventure April 2008 Day 15 - walking in toronto

Our first day in Toronto and we coveredf a fair bit of ground. We walked to the subway and caught it to the Museum, which we covered top to bottom - very big and a bit tricky to follow the map!.

Next it was back on the subway and a short walk to Casa Loma, which is a castle where we did an audio tour and even climbed up lots of very narrow winding stairs into a turret, it also had tunnels and secret passages!!

Then it was back on the subway and more walking to find Church st where we looked for places that Queer as Folk was filmed, but we couldn't find them. More walking abd back on the subway to get us a bit closer to the hotel. Then a relax in the hotel before dinner.

Janet & Ali's Big Adventure Day 14 - to toronto!

We caught the train from Ottawa to Toronto. It took about 4 1/2 hours. Then we walked a really long way to our hotel where we found Ronda sitting in the lobby. Then it was out for some dinner & then back to the hotel to do some laundry before bed.
